With selections for multiple film festivals, including BAFTA-qualifying Carmarthen Bay Film Festival and BIFA-qualifying Barnes Film Festival, the no-budget short film Dear Fear follows the life of my younger brother. In the Summer of 2020, I decided to make a film about my then-13-year-old brother. In the midst of the first lockdown, he was feeling down, and I wanted to find a way to help. I gave him a task: each week, he’d write down one fear, always followed by two hopes. We took his photo once a week for a year, and he filmed his life on an old tape camera. As is often the way with documentaries, I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to end, but thanks to an incredible team of friends, we made something I’m really, really proud of. Not only did I leave this project with a film, but a newfound friendship with my little brother.
